Cold Brewed Coffee Chai Recipe
1. Select your coffee and Coarsely Grind your coffee beans
We recommend using our Colombian Medium Roast for this cold brew recipe as it is balanced and stands up well to the chai spices; however, any high-quality washed processed Colombian coffee will do the trick!
Get your coffee grinder and coarsely Grind the beans. After Grinding the medium roast, add 1 cup of course ground coffee to the mason jar.
2. Add Your Masala Chai Spices
Throw 3 to 5 cinnamon sticks into the jar along with 1 teaspoon of dried or fresh ginger, ½ teaspoon cloves, ½ teaspoon nutmeg ( you can use allspice as a substitute as we did) 6 whole cardamom pods.
3. Add honey to your cold brew container
Cinnamon with Cardamom gives the coffee a naturally caloric-free & healthy sweetener although if you are looking to add sweetener we recommend using either raw local honey or panela cane sugar.
4. Pour Filtered Water in Mason Jar
Water can be full of Impurities that can alter the taste of your at-home cold brew coffee so we highly suggest investing in a water filter if you do not already have one!
Now, pour 5 cups of cold filtered water into the Mason jar.
5. Close jar and let your spiced chai cold brew steep!
Cover the top of your mason jar with the cheesecloth and then tighten the lid on top. Next, Put the cold brew chai in the refrigerator. You can also let the coffee steep at room temperature as well.
If you steep in the refrigerator, the rule of thumb is to let your cold brew steep for 14-16 hours and steep for 12-14 hours at room temperature.
Over steeping your cold brew can impart unpleasant tastes to the coffee. Do not forget to set a timer!
6. Pour Cold Brew and Enjoy
Grab a glass and pour yourself a cold brew! If you are feeling like making lattes with your cold brew, you can! For an iced spiced coffee latte, add your milk of choice to your glass along with a little sweetener if you wish.
